HUT, hut, hut turned into hot, hot, hot for a team of American footballers who ran from Burnley to Colne - dressed in full protective gear.
A team of 20 from the Burnley Tornados’ senior squad took on the Gut Buster Challenge on Sunday to raise money for the club and Pendle Dogs in Need. They started out at Burnley’s Prairie Playing Fields, in Windermere Avenue, and navigated through Reedley, Brierfield, Nelson, and Barrowford en route to the finish line at Colne and Nelson RUFC’s Holt House Playing Fields in Colne. The 10.3km was made even more difficult thanks to the warm sunshine, with temperatures reaching the mid-20s. Alex Bideau, 26, said everyone completed the course within an hour-and-a-half. He said: “We stuck with the slowest man’s pace to show that we’re a team. “The second half of the run, after we stopped for drinks at Bargain Booze in Barrowford, was really hard. “It was really hot but we had to keep going because it’s for a good cause. “We got some funny looks coming through Nelson and lots of beeping horns and people wondering what was going on. “The last hill up to Holt House was a killer but we crossed the line in high spirits.” |
